Summer Camp

Hope you’re all having a lovely summer so far. The summer camp on 6th-10th Aug is filling up nicely but there’s still space if anyone else would like to join us. We have lots of fun games and activities planned, and of course everyone gets the famous camp t-shirt. The camp is open to non members as well as members so siblings and friends can come too, even if they have never played hockey before. It is open to P1-7 (year group as of June 2018) boys and girls, and the cost is £50 per child. If you would like to book a space or have any questions, please email

Any S1-S6 interested in helping coach should also email the above address. It’s a popular role so get in quick!

Finally, if there is enough interest, I will run a pre-season fitness and skills session for S1-S6 in the afternoons. Interested? Drop me an email!

Awards Evening Success!

What a night! Over 200 people came to our first Haddington Hockey Awards Evening last night. Fantastic to have such great support from our ever growing #hockeyfamily where we rewarded our most valued and most improved players as well as honouring our #weewarriors

Our president Linda Wood opened the evening then I introduced our guest Amy Brodie who gave an inspirational speech on the ups and downs of her hockey career. The presentation of awards followed to lots of cheers and clapping from the enthusiastic audience. They even kindly laughed at the host’s attempts to be funny – thanks guys! Winners not only had their awards presented by Amy but they got their photo taken with her, snapped by the fantastic Emma Campbell. After the presentation, a long line of kids waited patiently to get a photo with Amy and her autograph on their sticks, hockey balls and socks. Final job of the night was to draw the raffle and spot the ball prizes. Amy drew the winning tickets so if you didn’t win, blame her! 😂 Massive thank you to all those who generously donated raffle prizes big and small – each and every one was appreciated. Prizes will be available at training for those who missed the draw.

Awards Evening Special Guest Announcement!

Delighted to say that Amy Brodie will be speaking and presenting prizes at our Awards Evening on 8th June. Amy is a regular in the Scotland team and last month she was with them at the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games where she was the 2nd top field goalscorer of the competition. Amy plays for Edinburgh University and for the second year in a row they have won the domestic treble. At our awards last year Amy sent us a video message from her Scotland training camp but this year she is going one better and joining us in person!

Get your tickets now, you don’t want to miss this!!!

End of Season Awards

Tickets for our Awards Night will be available at training this week so make sure you get yours – you don’t want to miss out!

Also available will be tickets for our raffle which so far has prizes such as Edinburgh Rugby top, Aratac hockey stick, massage voucher, make up lesson/application, cut and blow dry, and lots of bottles and chocolates. Excellent prizes and we are very grateful to all those who have donated – thank you! Raffle tickets will be on sale on the night and at training over the next few weeks. Get involved and support your club!

End of Season Awards Evening

Come join us on Friday 8th June to celebrate the achievements of club and school hockey from the past season. Awards will be given to our most valued and improved players as well as us giving thanks to those who help run the club. A special guest will be on hand to help us make presentations and pose for photographs. All will be revealed later…

The evening is open to all players from U8s through to ladies 1sts and of course our new group of back to hockey ladies, as wrll as all Knox Hockey players. Parents, grandparents, siblings and anyone else that’s important to our players are invited to join us too. We will have a raffle with great prizes (massage, makeovers, hockey kit, meal vouchers etc) and some fun activities to help us raise money to boost club funds. If anyone has anything they would like to donate to the raffle, please get in touch.

The evening will be ticketed with tickets costing £5 for adults and free for children. These can be bought at training or reserved by emailing and making a bank transfer to the club account. The event will not be catered so everyone is encouraged to bring their own food and drink. The hall will be laid out with big round tables so it’s a great opportunity for some socialising and feasting. After the presentation there will be time for everyone to relax and mingle, and there will be music to keep the kids entertained.

Who’s in?!

Summer Camp!

Registration forms are now available for our Summer Camp which is running Monday 6th August to Friday 10th August, 9am-12.30pm, for P1-P7.

FB sign up

Watch this space for a S1-S6 camp running in the afternoons of the same week. For now though, players of that age can sign up as a volunteer coach for the mornings. Get in touch if you/your child is interested.

New Teams!

Given our strong numbers at U14 level this season, we have decided to enter an U16 team into the East Leagues when they resume in September. Any player under the age of 16 on 1st of September 2018 will be able to play, as will anyone still U14 but deemed able enough to play at that level. The format of games is different to the U14 league in that they are played at home and away venues as opposed to a central venue. Also, games take place on a Sunday afternoon rather than morning, and games progress to 11-a-side. Training for this squad will take place on Wednesdays 7pm-8pm, starting in August.

We have also decided to enter a Haddington Development team into the Ladies East District League, starting in September. This team is open to any female aged 14 plus, and will be a mix of school aged players and adults, playing 11-a-side. The purpose of the team is twofold – 1. To help bring on the skills of the young girls so they can advance from youth hockey to our ladies first team and beyond. 2. To provide adult females with the opportunity to play a more social and local level of hockey than the current ladies firsts who play National League. Training will be on Wednesdays 7pm-8pm and games on Saturday afternoons either home or away, around Edinburgh and the Lothians. There is lots to be ironed out before the season starts but for now I am looking to hear from interested players for both the U16s and the Development Team. Drop me a message or grab me at training. And, of course, spread the word!

P1 intake

When we return after the Easter holidays, our U8 session (4pm-4.45pm) will be open to P1s. If you would like to sign your child up please go to the “Join Youth Section” part of our website and complete the form. All children must be signed up prior to coming along so that we have the necessary information. Sticks and shinguards can be provided but children should have their own gumshield.

Look forward to meeting some new faces very soon!

Upcoming Tournaments & TeamApp

We have a number of tournaments to look forward during the next few months –

Gullane Tournament at Meadowmill Sports Centre on Sunday 29th April. U8s and U10s in the morning and U12s and U14s in the afternoon.

Meadowmill Indoor Tournament at Meadowmill Sports Centre on Sunday 13th May. U10s in the morning and U12s in the afternoon. Nothing for U8s or U14s.

Dunbar Tournament at Hallhill Centre on either Sunday 20th or 27th May. U8s and U10s in the morning and U12s and U14s in the afternoon.

Fidra Tournament is Saturday 2nd and Sunday 3rd June. Location and times TBC but it is open to U8, U10, U12 and U14.

East Lothian Tournament at Meadowmill on Saturday 23rd (U8, U10, U12) and Sunday 24th June (U14 and adults).

Sign up for all of these and all future festivals, leagues and tournaments will be done through TeamApp only. Please make sure you download the app (it is free and you can also access it on your computer) and request to join “Haddington Junior Hockey Club”, signing up for each age group that you have a child in. As your child moves through the age groups you will have to join that group as it does not automatically move you up. The U14s have trialled the use of TeamApp and found it to be excellent for match notifications and sign-ups.

Using TeamApp will enable us to reduce the use of manually-generated email lists to coordinate match sign-up (as part of our data protection policies to comply with GDPR laws – more information will be published on this soon).
