Annual Fireworks Display

One of the best parts of living in town like ours is how people come together and put on great events for the community. One of the big ones in Haddington is the annual fireworks display which this year is on 4th November. Lorraine from the organising committee has been in touch to ask for some help from us – is there any adult member or parents who could help man the gates? It would from 6pm until 8.30pm and obviously you get to see all the lovely fireworks for free! If you can help please contact Lorraine on 07866240234 or lorrainedickson37@gmail.com

Thanks,

Suzanne

Youth Umpiring Course

I will be running another Youth Umpiring Course on Wednesday 27th September 6.30pm-8.30pm at the Aubigny for anyone who missed the last one held earlier this year.

It’s open to players, coaches and parents who would like to learn more about the rules of youth hockey. After the session, attendees will have the knowledge and hopefully confidence to umpire matches at U8, U10 and U12 age groups.

If you would like to attend, please let me know.

Thanks,

Suzanne

U14 (S1 & S2) Training

Now that we are a few weeks into the new season, it is clear that the 5pm-6pm session is very busy. Whilst we want as many children as possible playing hockey, we also want them to enjoy it and be safe. In order to continue to provide a safe, quality and fun environment, we have decided to move U14 (S1 & S2) training back an hour to 6pm-7pm, as of Wednesday 20th September.

We appreciate this change might not suit everyone but we feel this option is preferable to having lots of children on a waiting list. If this change means your child will no longer be able to play hockey then please get in touch.

Registration Forms

Registration forms are essential for all players and must be completed every season. We have moved to an online system to make life easier all round and the form can be found in the drop down menu on the website under “Registration Form”.

Completion of the form means we can register your child with our Scottish Hockey insurance policy. It also gives us vital medical information and contact details that allow us to keep your child safe while under our care.

Several people are yet to complete the registration form and our window of flexibility is running out so please complete the form asap. As of Sun 10th September it will be a “no form, no play” policy.

Thanks,

Suzanne

Life after U14 hockey…

What happens when a player becomes too old for U14 hockey? Well, at that point, Scottish Hockey deem them old enough to play senior aka adult hockey, which is split into male and female leagues.

Here at Haddington Hockey Club, we have an adult female team and are in the process of establishing an adult male team. Both of these teams train on a Monday night at the Aubigny Astro. The ladies run 6.30pm-8pm and the gents run 7pm-8pm. There is also a mixed training session on a Wednesday night from 6pm-7pm for U18 boys and girls.

There are U16 Leagues but these fixtures are not regular and as one club we do not yet have the numbers to field teams at the age group. We are discussing with other local clubs how we can work together on this so that young players don’t feel the need to go into Edinburgh. Watch this space!

The other thing to note is that we are very committed to developing our young coaches, and at 14 players can begin formal qualifications.  Youth umpiring is also on offer.

I’m happy to discuss player development with any player and/or parent to ensure the transition from youth to adult hockey is as smooth as possible. Any questions please just ask.
